HGDB – Hellenic Games Database

Welcome to HGDB, the Hellenic Games Database!

This is the official database of the games industry in Greece, and serves as a comprehensive archive of all games developed in our country, along with the studios, teams, and professionals who brought them to life!

Built on the foundation of our annual Census, carried out by the Greek Game Developer Assocation, this website is designed to document, support, and celebrate our local game development ecosystem. Our goal is to provide industry professionals, researchers, policymakers, and gamers with a clear and evolving picture of our thriving industry.

We are proud to also state that this project is proudly backed by the Greek Ministry of Culture, which reflects our dedication to gathering and sharing demographic insights to enhance the representation and growth of the Greek game development industry.

1. Our Mission & Goals

HGDB was developed with a clear purpose:

  • Documenting & Preserving Greek Games – Maintaining a historical and up-to-date record of all games developed in Greece.
  • Providing Industry Insights – Offering valuable data on game development professionals and companies; which aids in research, policymaking, and international collaboration.
  • Connecting the Community – Strengthening relationships between game developers, publishers, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Showcasing Talent – Highlighting the incredible studios, teams, and individuals shaping our national game industry, without excluding hobbyist or non-commercial projects.

By maintaining an accurate, evolving database, we strive to ensure that our industry’s contributions are recognized and celebrated both locally and internationally.

2. The Annual Census

Since 2021, we have conducted the Greek Games Industry Census, an annual effort to map out the growth, challenges, and successes of our national game development ecosystem.

This census gathers critical data on:

  • The number of active game development studios and teams
  • Game releases and commercial success stories
  • Occupational & Employment trends within the industry
  • Revenue and funding sources

Each year, we submit our findings to the European Games Developer Federation (EGDF), contributing to a broader understanding of the European games industry. The insights from this census also shape policies, funding opportunities, and industry support initiatives at the national level.

We encourage all game developers and studios in Greece to participate in the census to help ensure that our industry’s achievements and needs are accurately represented.

Not all data collected through the Census is publicly displayed on this platform. Personal information and specific financial details are only shared in aggregated, demographic form with the EGDF at this time.

3. Who We Are

HGDB is an initiative by the Game Developer Association Greece, a community-based association, dedicated to supporting and advancing game development in Greece.

You’re most likely reading this because one of our community members shared our database with you, and as such you have seen that our our community consists of industry professionals, researchers, and passionate individuals who believe in the power of games as a creative, cultural, and economic force.

If you’re interested in learning more about our work, collaborating with us, or contributing to the database, don’t hesitate to visit our website (https://gamedev.gr).
